Set yourself free!

Don’t get me wrong, I’d been in ‘management’ for a good part of my working life, but I’d never actually taken that final step.
As it happens, I wasn’t actually looking to start my own business, but when I set about creating a product that would give my son a ‘virtual cuddle’, allowing me some rest, other people just seemed to love the idea.

Of course, I wouldn’t have been the first person to have had encouragement from friends & family, surely, that’s part of their job, but when people started placing orders, I knew that it wasn’t just ‘aren’t you clever’ type of encouragement.

In those very early days, we started making them at home, just me & my mum. Of course, at the time, we were enormously proud of our work, we had actually made something that not only did people want to buy, but something that could potentially make quite an impact to the families with young babies.
Looking back at those early products now, we can see just how much the product & quality have evolved over the years.

We now have our own dedicated manufacturing facility, with full-time employees, shipping products internationally.
Along with that, we are also currently working with the Health Design Technology Institute, an independent academic research facility that supports the development of new and innovative healthcare products – we believe that our product is the best, with help from the HDTI, we intend to keep it that way.

There is an old saying that goes along the lines of ‘you don’t know what you don’t know’; it is applicable to many things in life, even more so when it comes to business.
Even ‘old hands’ can always learn something new, especially with the rate that technology changes and changes things.

I’m grateful that I’ve had some great support over the years, I’ve had ‘advice’ that could have ruined me, I’ve had sage words that have dramatically helped me, I guess part of the learning process is to understand which is which and what to act upon.

What I do know is this; no matter how difficult things have been, I don’t regret for a minute setting up my own business, it has allowed me to meet some fantastic people and have some wonderful opportunities.

If you’re thinking about setting up your own business, my advice would be to go for it – yes, it can be extremely hard work, at times distressing, but it can also be a fantastic experience that could change your life!
